Happy St. Patrick's Day

Is St. Patrick’s Day a celebrated holiday in your home? Do you wear green in fear of getting pinched, drink green beer, or eat corn beef and cabbage? St. Patrick’s Day has always been a special holiday for me. My maiden name is Murphy and dad was always so proud of his Irish heritage. Every year my parents served us corn beef and cabbage for dinner, but believe it or not, I never ate it. Not even a taste. I just never seemed appealing to me. But I always enjoyed the day because of my dad’s love for it. My brother carried on his traditions after my father passed away, they were both true Irishman. Both went by the name “Murph or Murphy”, hardly ever would you hear anyone call them by their first name. Now my oldest grandson is our reason for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, how lucky is he to be born on this special day.

St. Patrick’s Day observes the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and a whole lot of green.

Did you know that because of the enthusiasm of American’s that St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other single-day national festival.

So go be Irish for the day…

Get your green on! Everyone is an honorary Irish lad or lass on St. Patrick’s Day.

Start your day watching a Parade, it will only get better from there.

Hunt for leprechauns. Legend has it that if you catch a leprechaun, the little fella has to surrender his pot of gold to you. How lucky would that be.

Fun Fact…

The four-leaf clover being lucky has nothing to do with St. Patrick-legend has it that St. Patrick used a green plant with three leaves, commonly called a shamrock, to teach the Christian concept of the Holy Trinity-only a three=leaf clover can be a shamrock.

I hope you enjoy St. Patrick’s Day as much as I do. Make it a great day and maybe start some traditions of your own.
